It is very important to the School to support local communities and charities and to respond to international appeals wherever possible.
Friends of Della and Don (FoDAD)
The Village School is committed to provide ongoing support for St Mary’s Village School in Ratmalana through ‘Friends of Della and Don’. The charity was set up by a friend of a past parent of The Village School, who was holidaying in Sri Lanka when the 2004 Tsunami hit. Their aim is to provide access to a decent education, healthcare and community facilities to the people who live in the village of Ratmalana.
Funds raised by The Village School provide a daily breakfast for each pupil, which can often be the only meal some children will receive each day, at the cost of £1,970 every 4 months.
We have also raised funds for school uniforms, a playground and a school library. Like any school, their needs are ongoing and they are currently appealing for funds towards a new roof for the school and other community needs, such as water pumps and fishing boats.
If you would like to make a donation, please contact the Village School secretary.

Email from Della 22nd February 2011:
Subject: It’s down to you!
“You should be glowing with pride. The government sent health visitors to our school yesterday. They were astounded and said they could not believe how healthy the children are. It is all down to the nutrition they get from the food you supply. I only realised the difference when I visited a school for street children this week.
It is a wonderful island to visit, full of ancient Buddhist culture, great food and, of course, our kids. I hope that you can get here one day!”
Charlie Ratchford Resource Centre, Camden :
“The Village School shares a close relationship with the Charlie Ratchford Centre for Camden Residents aged 60+. Harvest Festival hampers collected in school are taken to the centre by the Upper School Choir. A delightful afternoon ensues with time for a chat over a cup of tea and a cake, followed by a performance from the Choir, with everybody joining in a few of the old favourite songs.”
